Could Manchester United really land Luis Suarez for £65m from Liverpool?

Metro

Could Luis Suarez be on his way out of Liverpool? (Picture: Getty Images)

Manchester United are ready to outbid Real Madrid with a £65million move for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, according to Spanish reports.

Barcelona-based newspaper Sport claims United have handed incoming boss Louis van Gaal £200m to re-vamp and bolster the squad ahead of next season, and the Dutchman is keen on teaming Suarez up with Robin van Persie at Old Trafford.

With European Champions Real Madrid also interested in taking the Uruguayan to Spain this summer, reports claim that Van Gaal is ready to gazump Los Blancos by £15m to land last season’s Premier League top scorer.

Suarez signed a new four-and-a-half-year contract with Liverpool in December before his 31 goals in 33 appearances took the club to the brink of winning their first Premier League title in 24 years.

And while the Reds would never entertain the idea of selling their star striker to United, Sport speculates that…

Why Chelsea must replace Petr Cech with Thibaut Courtois next season

There has been a lot of speculation surrounding the futures of Chelsea goalkeepers Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois, with some reports claiming that Cech may follow David Luiz to Paris Saint-Germain whilst others claim he’ll remain the club’s number one for at least another season.

Loaning Courtois out to Atletico Madrid for one more season feels like kicking the can down the road for me and I believe the decision must be made this summer.

The Belgian is already far too used to being away from Stamford Bridge, where he’s only featured in an Atletico shirt, and it would be understandable if he had absolutely no affinity for his parent club while his affection for the La Liga champions is evident.

Five strikers who could shoot Newcastle United up the Premier League table

Metro

Could Arsenal’s Nicklas Bendtner be the man for Newcastle (Picture: AP Photo)

Forward thinking Newcastle United have started their striker search for attacking reinforcements next season and with that in mind here’s five players who the Toon could target.

Following the expected overhaul of the Magpie’s squad which has seen nine players – including long serving striker and Toon legend Shola Ameobi – leave St James’ Park, the Toon are left with only the injured Papiss Cisse upfront.

The Magpie’s are rumoured to have opened their account in this summer’s transfer window by signing up hotly tipped Spanish striker Ayoze Perez, but it would be unfair to lay the Toon’s goal scoring burden solely on his shoulders.

After a season which saw the team score just 43 goals, and the now departed duo of midfield Yohan Cabaye and on-loan Loic Remy grabbing almost 50 per cent of them, the…

Britain’s Got Talent’s Darcy Oake: I’m trying not to think of the show as a competition

Metro

Britain's Got Talent Darcy Oake Will Darcy Oake bring his doves back to the Britain’s Got Talent stage? (Picture: ITV)

He was one of the standout acts of the 2014 Britain’s Got Talent auditions, thanks to his ability to seemingly produce doves – and women – out of thin air.

However magician Darcy Oake, who unsurprisingly is one of the 40 acts to make it through to this year’s live semi-finals, has admitted that he is keeping an open mind about his chances of being crowned series champion.

Speaking to Metro ahead of Monday night’s first live show, when he will make his bid for a place in the grand final, the Canadian 26-year-old revealed: ‘I’m trying not to think of it as a competition, I’m thinking more about trying to do a performance I’m artistically satisfied with.’

And he added that the pressure was on to deliver once again, especially after Simon Cowell declared…

Why Ryan Giggs’ Manchester United story could never be a Hollywood blockbuster

Metro

Ryan Giggs lifts the UEFA Champions League trophy (Picture: PA Wire)

If Ryan Giggs’ football career was the plot of a film you would probably turn it off half-way through, rolling your eyes and dismissing it as totally unbelievable.

Everyone enjoys a feel-good-film, but you have to draw a line somewhere. Giggs’ career is too good to be true and on Monday afternoon it crossed in to the realms of total fantasy.

Giggs grew up in Salford supporting United and when he was 14-years-old, Alex Ferguson showed up on his doorstep, asking him to sign schoolboy forms. Three years later, Giggs signed on as a professional.

He started his first game as a 17-year-old on derby day and was credited with the only goal of the game. Giggs probably wouldn’t have believed for a moment that he would go on to play in a further 35 Manchester derbies for United.

Giggs’ dream start to…

Luis Suarez: I have no Barcelona or Real Madrid transfer clause in Liverpool contract

Staying put: Luis Suarez of Liverpool (Picture: Getty Images)

Luis Suarez has denied he has a clause in his contract which will make it easier for Spanish giants Real Madrid or Barcelona to sign him.

There have been rumours his deal with Liverpool had a stipulation which included the option for a move to either club, if they bid a certain amount.

But asked at a sponsor’s event in Barcelona the Uruguay striker said: ‘I didn’t sign any contract with clauses prioritising a certain team.

‘My head now is focused on the World Cup. Everyone knows there will be speculation this summer as there always is but I have a contract with Liverpool.’

Of losing out to Manchester City in the Premier League title race, Suarez admitted he was furious at the end of the Crystal Palace match when Reds threw away a three-goal lead to draw.

‘I had a lot…

Manchester United fans fly plane over Liverpool mocking Steven Gerrard’s slip

Metro

united Manchester United fans used their last day of the season to get one final dig at rivals Liverpool – by chartering a plane to fly over Anfield with a cheeky message to Steven Gerrard.

After enduring an atrocious season, it came as no surprise that some Mancs concentrated their efforts on mocking the Reds rather than focusing on their own side’s dead-rubber fixture away to Southampton.

Needless to say, any message worth its salt these days has to be delivered via a banner trailing a plane, and today’s effort over Anfield was no different.

‘United 20 – Gerrard 0’ was the message, referring to the number of league titles respective parties have won.

Slightly premature, perhaps?

Freaky! Samir Nasri bullet goal gives Manchester City exact replica of dramatic 2012 situation against QPR

Metro

Samir Nasri fired a potentially title-winning bullet to give Manchester City a first-half lead against West Ham.

With City just needing a point against the Hammers to secure their second Premier League trophy in three years, it was all even until the Frenchman rasped home from 25 yards in the 39th minute.

That goal, coupled with Liverpool losing 1-0 at home to Newcastle, left City looking pretty on top of the table, but after leading by the exact same score, with a goal in the exact same minute at this point two season’s ago at home to QPR, fans will know how quickly a game can change…
