Aston Villa will suddenly gain thousands of new supporters on Wednesday as Liverpool and Chelsea fans cross their fingers, don their lucky pants and scrabble around in the garden for a four-leaved clover – all in the hope we’ll turn Manchester City over at the Etihad.

Stop giggling. It could happen. Here’s five reasons to get your hopes up…

1. Villa’s impressive record against the top four
Rather unbelievably, given our dire season, we have taken more points off Liverpool, City, Chelsea and Arsenal than any other side in the league bar the Blues themselves. We won at the Emirates in August and got a draw at Anfield in January – who’s to say we can’t produce again one more time?
