In all honesty though, Chelsea’s win cannot be blamed on just the one man. Liverpool were flat – gone was the high tempo and free-flowing incisive play which has been so prevalent in their performances this year.
Luis Suarez chose the worst possible day to produce his most ineffectual display of the campaign, while that little bundle of pace and trickery that is Raheem Stirling found it impossible to replicate his outstanding showings of late.
