Pele’s hair has been turned into diamonds.
An unusual first sentence in anyone’s books, but totally factual.
The football legend, seen by many as the finest player of all time, has unveiled an unlikely piece of memorabilia to coincide with this summer’s World Cup in his home country, Brazil.
Strands of the 73-year-old’s hair have been turned into diamonds and added to a limited edition souvenir.
The sparklers are made during a high-pressure, high-temperature process during which the hair is charred.
The souvenir comes in a gold-encased box, complete with statue of Pele in action for Brazil.
The collectors piece is made up of 1,283 diamonds – one for each of the goals scored in his professional career – worth around £4,500.
