Wayne Rooney wowed fans at Upton Park – including David Beckham – with a stunning strike from the halfway line, catching West Ham stopper Adrian off his line to give Manchester United the lead.

The England’s international’s first-half strike was immediately compared to that of Beckham at Wimbledon in 1996, with discussions springing up on Twitter over which was the better goal.
