Liverpool’s impressive 3-0 destruction of Premier League champions Manchester United pretty much achieved their pre-season goal of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
At the beginning of the campaign the challenge of breaking into the top four looked to be a massive challenge, especially as the Reds has struggled at times during Brendan Rodgers’ first season in charge.
Yes, Liverpool improved in the second half of the season, but they still finished in seventh position and talk of European qualification looked a long way away.
Personally I thought Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City would bag three of the positions up for grabs, and figured that Liverpool would have to finish above Arsenal to break into Europe’s premier competition again.
