Manchester City v Chelsea: Sweet Branislav Ivanovic strike makes it advantage Jose Mourinho’s men

Beautifully executed goal

A beautifully executed Branislav Ivanovic strike put Chelsea 1-0 at Premier League title rivals Manchester City tonight.

The Serbian defender broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute when his left-footed diagonal shot from the edge of the area whizzed past Joe Hart and into the bottom corner after an initial Ramires strike had been blocked by Vincent Kompany.

Earlier, Blues attacker Willian wasted a promising four-on-two situation when his bungled overhead kick flew over.

In a fascinating and evenly balanced contest, David Silva went closest for the hosts, directing a low Yaya Toure cut-back narrowly wide from close range.
