Franck Ribery and Karim Benzema acquitted in underage prostitute case

French football stars Franck Ribery and Karim Benzema have been acquitted on charges of soliciting an underage prostitute.

The duo were cleared after a French court ruled there wasn’t enough evidence they knew escort Zahia Dehar was underage at the time of the alleged incidents.

Bayern Munich winger Ribery, who is married with three children, and Real Madrid forward Benzema faced up to three years in prison if found guilty.

Ribery’s lawyer, Carlo Alberto Brusa, said the decision was ‘a victory for justice’.

‘When you experience moments like that you get goose bumps, as he told me himself,’ he said.

‘Playing football with that weighing on you is not easy and for me it’s the sign of a great champion. He showed in 2013 that he’s a fantastic player.’

Benzema’s lawyer Sylvain Cormier called the verdict ‘the end of a nightmare’ for the France international.
